Interview with our Intern: Liz's Attraqt Experience

Posted by Team Attraqt on Jul 10, 2018 2:19:00 PM

We recently welcomed fashion student Liz Conway into our office as part of the Fashion Retail Academy’s innovative work experience programme. The programme gives students the opportunity to immerse themselves in real-life work scenarios that relate to the fashion retail space. Elizabeth helped us with a variety of exciting eCommerce projects that had a direct impact on the fashion clients that we work with.

We caught up with her over coffee at the end of her 3-week placement to talk about her journey, why she loves fashion and her work experience highlights.

What are you studying and why?

“Fashion Marketing & Communications at the Fashion Retail Academy. I chose to study fashion because I love the way that it’s a very visual form of self-expression that is often inspired by art, culture and music. I also enjoy the way that each fashion brand is visually unique and can be perceived differently by everyone, evoking diverse thoughts and opinions.”

What has been the highlight of your course so far?

“The Visual Communications module, where we were assigned the project of creating a blog aimed at a specific audience. I created a streetwear blog aimed at students. I really enjoyed this, as it was a project with a lot of freedom for creativity and experimentation.”

Explain why you were drawn to the Attraqt placement?

“I had a meeting with one of my tutors where we discussed my career interests. I have always known that I’d like to work within a creative field and due to my interest in technology and design, the Attraqt position stood out as it combines the two areas in a unique way.”

In terms of the brands that Attraqt works with, which ones excite you the most and why?

“I would say Beauty Bay and Matches Fashion as they are brands that I relate to the most. Although both websites are different, I really like their visual appeal and the way that they display products in a stylish and relevant way, which Attraqt has helped them to do with its technology.”

Why do you think eCommerce is important to the fashion industry?

“eCommerce is so important to the fashion industry these days as online shopping has soared in popularity over the past few years. Nowadays many people don’t have the time to spend a whole day shopping in-store, so they opt for online channels instead.

I find that a lot of people my age would much rather shop online, mainly due to the ease-of-use of many websites and the fact that you can have your desired item on your doorstep the next morning with things like next day delivery. Personalization is also a big part of eCommerce shopping, as it shows the customer that brands can go the extra mile to meet individual needs, just like an in-store shopping assistant can. These developments are super exciting for me as online shopping is the future, and the changes are so fast-paced.”

What projects have you worked on at Attraqt, and what did you like about them?

“During my time at Attraqt, I have worked on a variety of different projects that have helped me to understand the everyday tasks involved in running an eCommerce-focused marketing team. Working on Photoshop to produce social media assets for Attraqt’s social channels has been really engaging as I love putting my creative skills to use and experimenting with different styles and designs.

I’ve also enjoyed working on event planning for Attraqt’s first ever Customer Conference at the Century Club, as I have always found event planning exciting and the event has involved staff from so many amazing brands which I find personally inspiring, such as Beauty Bay, Paul Smith and Kurt Geiger."

"I also completed an online email marketing course related to Attraqt’s content management system, where I learnt about lifecycle marketing, content management, segmentation and lead nurturing. This has helped to enhance my understanding of the skills that are needed in the digital marketing space.”

Has the experience at Attraqt taught you anything useful about working in eCommerce?

“Yes definitely, it’s shown me the detailed workings of eCommerce and how crucial it is to the success of every business, including fashion retailers. It’s also made me realise how much fashion brands benefit from tech solutions when it comes to making their online shops work well for their customers.”

If you could describe your experience at Attraqt in 3 words, what would these be?

“Exciting, innovative, engaging!”
